Game Mechanics[]
Rules[]
Timey-Wimey Rules:
- time travel is limited to within 4 phases in either direction
- future:
- is simple. You are out of the primary timeline until whatever phase you’ve moved to
- past:
- moving to the past creates a secondary timeline
- players in the past can add to the previously submitted actions for each past cycle they experience
- 75% chance that the impact of any given secondary timeline action will reverberate through to the next cycle towards the primary timeline
- each day that a player is in the past, they may also add a vote, with secondary lynch results based on that vote being added to the primary vote tally for that phase
- all players will only be able to view phases they live through
- so, a player who has skipped past D2 to N3 will not see what happens during D2
- a player who is sent back from primary D2 to secondary N1 will see secondary N1, but not primary N3, which happens after (from out of game perspective) that player was sent back
- each phase’s thread begins with the post ending the previous phase. So, the primary N1 post will not be posted in the N1 thread, but rather in the D1 thread
- as a result of all of this, dead players need to continue to submit actions cycle-by-cycle (although they won’t have much knowledge to go on), so that if a secondary action cancels their death, all resultant changes can be processed efficiently
- players who are in the past can broadcast up to 1 message into the primary timeline
- limited to 2 selves per phase, or Reapers will be spawned
- self-targeting when 2 selves are available spawns Reapers
- Reapers produce a 50% chance of action failure, 25% chance of death, 25% chance no effect
Q & A
If Player A moving into the past can create a secondary timeline, then if Player B moves into the past to the same day/night during a later cycle, will they move into the same secondary timeline or will they move into a tertiary timeline?
- They will move to a tertiary timeline that includes what happened in the second timeline.
- no, all players in the same (game time) at the same (real time) are in the same timeline. At least if I understood that question correctly.
Under the same token, if both Player A and Player B move into the past (D2, as an example) during the same cycle, but Player A moves to N2 and Player B to D1, will Player B move into a tertiary N2, or if they both move to N2 and the next cycle Player B moves back to D1, will they move through to a tertiary N2?
- The question is kind of confusing, so I'll try to answer what you seem to be getting at. If Player A moves to N2 and Player B to D1, they will each be in a secondary timeline for their respective phase. If Player B stays in that timeline, his next phase will be a tertiary N2.
- If they both move to N2, they will both be in a secondary N2. If Player B then moves to D1, it will be to a secondary D1, and a tertiary N2 next phase accompanied by Reapers because there are more than two Player B's in that phase.
Can players move back and forward to any specific day?
- I'll have to consult with Shad, but I think we agreed on being able to move to any past phase, but only four phases into the future.
- 4 each way
Is a move to the future considered a secondary cycle or a primary, with the primary timeline becoming a secondary upon reaching that cycle via progression of the game?
- A move to the future results in the player being unable to act until the primary timeline catches up with him. When it does, he will be part of the primary timeline.
Am I making sense or are my questions just as confusing as the game itself, haha?
Do we have night actions? are they secret? Who will be able to time travel? and when? what are limitations?
- Secret, secret, 4 phases each way.
If Player A moving into the past can create a secondary timeline, then if Player B moves into the past to the same day/night during a later cycle, will they move into the same secondary timeline or will they move into a tertiary timeline? Under the same token, if both Player A and Player B move into the past (D2, as an example) during the same cycle, but Player A moves to N2 and Player B to D1, will Player B move into a tertiary N2, or if they both move to N2 and the next cycle Player B moves back to D1, will they move through to a tertiary N2? Can players move back and forward to any specific day? Is a move to the future considered a secondary cycle or a primary, with the primary timeline becoming a secondary upon reaching that cycle via progression of the game? Am I making sense or are my questions just as confusing as the game itself, haha?
- From whose (or Whos) perspective? You see time is relative unless you move to the future in which case you sit out a few cycles. If you move to the past you move to a "secondary" timeline which is in flux. Nobody know what you might find there, it may even be over-populated with Reapers. Such are the risks of time-travel. You will simply have to trust the host that the condition you find your secondary timeline in is temporally correct. Paradoxes by and large sort themselves out. Just don't think too hard about it or I'll need to wipe your exploded brains off the carpet again.
- WARNING to all time-travellers wincons are based on the primary "now" timeline. Any time outside the primary "now" timeline could be instrumental to your adversary achieving wincon. If you are a baddie don't be an egg and put your eggs in one basket -> TRANSLATION -> don't both time travel out of the primary.
However, this answer is not entirely informative, so I'll add some additional answers based on various cases.
- Case 1: Player A moves from N3P (primary N3) to N2A (a secondary N2), Player B moves from N4P to N2B: they are in N2 at separate times (from out of game/host perspective), therefore separate timelines.
Case 2: Player A moves from N2P to N1A and remains there through N2A, Player B moves from N3P to N2A: they are in N2 at the same time, therefore same timeline. Case 3: Player A moves from N2P to N1A, Player B moves from N2P to D1B: separate temporal coordinates relative to primary, therefore separate timelines. Case 4: Players A and B move from N3P to N2A, Player B then moves from N3A to D1B: that first move puts them both in the same timeline, however Player A remains in timeline A, while the second move puts Player B into a separate timeline. As Ben said, though, there will be Reapers in N2B: timelines layer, so Player B will exist in N2B from primary, A, and B, though he will only be able to change his B action while in N2B.
Is it possible for somebody (who I will just call "Freejack") to be transported from a secondary "past" timeline to the future just before they die in a spectacular F1 car explosion? If this is possible when everyone in the primary timeline arrives at the future date that they will they encounter a very much alive Freejack? Reference: Freejack
- Yes, it is possible for someone to thus escape, assuming successful reverberation to primary timeline.
What happens if it is not successful(25%)? Does FreeJack stay dead? Does FreeJack remain in secondary timeline limbo? How are you going to inform the instigating "Bonejackers" that their attempt to kidnap a person from the past into the primary timeline failed? What happens if it is successful(75%)? How do you intend to reintroduce FreeJack who everyone including himself considered dead?
- Limbo is about as dead as anyone will get this game tongue.gif (aka, he'll be in limbo).
- Have you played one of my games? I don't tell people much....
- PM FreeJack "Hey, you're alive again" so he knows to pay attention and play. Story-stuff introducing him, and move him back to the "alive here and now" part of the role list.

Host's Summary[]
MVP goes to Nana and plasmid!
Nana for quickly narrowing down the baddies, and effectively using the information from her role.
Plasmid for asking lots of questions to understand the game and thereby manipulate it, which ultimately led to the winning move.
It was a fun game for being new to hosting, albeit a short one. I had no idea how the game was going to turn out even when Nana had the baddies pretty much down. I was sad that time travel didn't play very much of a role, but kind of suspected that would happen in a small game. Overall, a good game by everyone. Thanks for playing!

Prologue |

The Doctor, Rose Tyler, and Jack Harkness were at Raxacoricofallapatorius, Margaret’s homeworld, to give her to a good family in the hopes of giving her a second chance at life. Margaret, a large green alien disguised as a human, had looked into the heart of the TARDIS and reverted back into an egg, after trying to escape Earth by blowing it up and riding the blast. As the Doctor walked out of the TARDIS and looked on the beautiful burgundy seas of that world, he suddenly found himself looking instead at Rose, inside the TARDIS, with its glowing heart still bare. "What happened to Margaret?" Rose asked. The Doctor, of course, was somewhat startled. "Excuse me?" "She just... disappeared!" The Doctor remembered seeing Margaret looking into the heart of the TARDIS, and then vanishing in a flash of light. But he also remembered her looking into it and dropping to the floor, as an egg. And then he felt something worse--something bigger. He frowned. He knew what this meant. Rose saw the concern in his face. "What is it?" "Something is wrong. We need to go. Now." The Doctor pushed, cranked, and pumped the various controls, and the TARDIS came to life. Just as its screeches reached their climax, Mickey and Jackie burst through the door. Jackie threw her arms up and yelled, "Rose! You're not leaving again, are you?" But even as she said it, the TARDIS had dematerialized and was on its way through the time vortex. Mickey remained by the door, with a frown on his face as he stared at Rose. ~~ "Where am I?" demanded Margaret. She was obviously in a spaceship of some sort, as Earth was outside the window. Something entered the room. A big, fleshy sheet on a metal frame. It had a face in the middle that began to speak. "Why hello." Margaret stepped forward, her large, green arm frighteningly contrasting her more delicate human disguise. "And who are you?" "Oh please. Calm down. I'm Cassandra, the last pure human. I brought you here because I thought we could help each other. We have a common enemy, I believe." "Oh? And who is that?" "Isn't it obvious? The Doctor." Margaret flared up. "What?! He was about to go up in flames, with the rest of the planet!" Cassandra sighed. "Actually, no. You failed, unsurprisingly. He's quite the crafty one, the Doctor. But we're going to kill him once and for all." A cloaked figure entered with an alien device and attached it to Cassandra's frame. Cassandra said to the figure, "Thank you dear," and then turned her eyes to Margaret. "Grab hold of me. We're going to take care of the Doctor once and for all." Margaret hesitated for a moment, but decided to play along. She grabbed Cassandra’s frame as the cloaked figure did the same and activated the device. In a flash, they were in London. Cassandra said to Margaret, "We're in the past, before the Doctor even knew of us. We're going to kill him before can even react." ~~ In an underground facility, filled with alien artifacts, one artifact stood out from the rest. It was alive--an actual alien. But of all aliens in the universe, there was none so full of hate, or so terrifying. It was a Dalek. But this one was broken and dying, until the Doctor and Rose came. It was then corrupted with emotions from Rose's DNA, though, and ended up destroying itself. However, Cassandra and Margaret had disrupted the timeline, and by some chain of events, the Doctor and Rose never saw the captive Dalek. Instead, Henry van Statten, the heartless owner of the facility, was the one to touch the Dalek and give it the DNA it needed to repair. The Dalek regained its power without being corrupted with emotions. After killing everyone in the facility, it learned about the recent presence of the Doctor, the Daleks' greatest enemy, and set off to destroy him. ~~ An empty place, but not really empty. Void, yet full of unspeakable things. The Rift was a terrifying place, and it was conscious. It felt trapped in its barren domain, with so much light and matter outside its dimension, and it wanted out. Suddenly, it found a gaping hole between its dimension and a bright, life-filled one, caused by Margaret's extrapolator harnessing the power of the TARDIS. "Oh," it thought, "What a beautiful place. Teeming with so much life. I feel like I would be quite comfortable there." And with that, he seeped a part of himself through the hole, creating a puppet with which to prepare this place for his coming. ~~ The TARDIS materialized in a London alleyway. The Doctor turned to the others, "Someone is messing with the past. We need to find them and stop them before they can do any real harm. Come on." And then he walked out the door. |
Night 1 |
---|
It was the day that Rose had first met the Doctor - when the Living Plastic attacked. Soon after the gang emerged from the TARDIS, they heard the explosion from Rose’s previous job. But something was not right; they heard gunshots as well. The plastic had already started its attack on London, and there was chaos through the streets. A horde of mannequins was coming their way, and as they ran, IAWY found himself separated from the group. It took a few minutes, but soon Rose noticed that he was gone. Turning back, she hurried to find him and bring him back to the group. He was not the only one to become separated, though: Barc and araver also looked around to realize the group had gone on ahead of them. Mickey, too, managed to lose the main group. As he bumbled around, though, he soon ran into Barc, and the two of them tried to stick together, running and trying to find the TARDIS. Araver was not so lucky; it was Cassandra who found him as he wandered. Cackling, she directed her attendants to bring him with her as she began to explain precisely why she was so determined to punish the Doctor. Araver twisted and struggled in the minions’ hands, eventually escaping their grasp by teleporting away. Margaret had been waiting for their arrival, and clapped gleefully as she saw them running from one of the alleys. She hurriedly made her way to where they were running and hid behind a corner. As they ran past, she bared her muscular green arm, swiftly grabbed the last one, and pulled him into the nearest building. She grinned wickedly as she saw that it was Hachi, and put a claw to his throat. “The Doctor will pay for what he has done to me,” she said as she swiftly cut his throat and dropped his lifeless corpse. Eventually, they all split off, each taking a separate route as they sought to return to the TARDIS. Barc, though, got lost in the maze of London streets; despite his best efforts, he was unable to make it before the TARDIS began to dematerialize with its characteristic whoosh. |
Day 1 |
---|
The TARDIS materialized in the observation platform located above Earth at the End of the World. As the group stepped out of the TARDIS, they were immediately aware of tiny twingy and scraping sounds of Cassandra’s spider robots coming from every direction, and heard yells and screams from the corridors. They rushed out of the storage room they had been in to see chaos ensuing throughout the platform. The Doctor grouped everyone together and told them to look for the cause of these changes in events and then ran off down a hallway. Everyone split up and started searching the platform, but as they were searching, suddenly all of the doors locked shut. Hacking the intercom with his sonic screwdriver, the Doctor asked if everyone was all right, and noticed that there were more voices than just his group’s. He demanded to know who they were, but the voices were unclear and he couldn’t tell whose was whose, and everyone was saying they were with him. Blame and accusations were thrown about, eventually falling down to one person - Kiwifruit. The Doctor finally decided that he needed to put an end to this and opened the heat shield for the room Kiwifruit was in. She screamed as the incinerating light started to burn her flesh, yelling, “Rose! Rose!” as she collapsed into silence. The Doctor raised the heat shield again and after finally managing to open the doors, the group got back together to find that the crisped victim had been Jackie. In remorse, they slowly got back into the TARDIS, going back for Barc before continuing on to find whoever started this mess. |
Night 2 |
---|
The TARDIS whooshed into their next destination - Cardiff 1869, where the Gelth had been occupying corpses and attempting to invade Earth through a Rift in spacetime. The Doctor sensed a disturbance that was different than what had already been occurring. Where the Rift had been small before, he could now feel it as a large and looming presence. Outside, there was once again panicked chaos, as countless Gelth were going through the streets, some occupying corpses, others almost corporeal. The Doctor hurried the group to Sneed’s funeral parlor, hoping to find answers there. Margaret and Cassandra were there as well. Again looking for the Doctor to enact their revenge, they jumped at the opportunity as soon as they saw his gang. Margaret reached out of a doorway and grabbed one, covering his mouth so he couldn’t call for help. However, Nana and Plasmid began to turn around to see what had caused the noise behind them. Margaret knocked Nana out cold with a swift punch, and one of Cassandra’s robots plunged a syringe into Plasmid, causing him to go unconscious. She started to walk back to where Cassandra and her had been hiding, and then noticed that her victim seemed to have suffocated under her grasp. Giggling, she tossed IAWY’s body aside and kept going. However, when she glanced back over later, she was surprised to see that the body was gone. Not wanting to hear Cassandra’s nagging, she kept it to herself. Noticing that people were missing, Mickey went back to look for them. He found Plasmid lying unconscious on the ground and shook him back to consciousness, helping him return to the group. When the Doctor and the others got to Sneed’s, they were awestruck at the sight. The Rift was larger than the house, distorting it and tearing it apart, and still growing. The Doctor realized that he could do nothing against this now, and told everyone to hurry back to the TARDIS, as they already had another problem on their hands. However, as they were heading back, Araver and Boquise suddenly warped away. The Doctor noticed but realized he couldn’t do anything about it. His mind being pressed on by so many concerns, he set his face and entered the TARDIS with the others, fiddling with the controls to get them to their next destination. |

As they ran to try to find the others, they suddenly came upon a dark, warped form. The Rift’s pawn stood still as they stared at it, too surprised and confused to know what to do. Suddenly, the figure reached out and they found themselves in completely different places, though luckily still in London. Eventually, they found their way back to the group and joined them, still shaken from the encounter. Margaret had been waiting for their arrival, and clapped gleefully as she saw them running from one of the alleys. She hurriedly made her way to where they were running and hid behind a corner. Day 2 |
---|
The Doctor stepped out of the TARDIS expecting another catastrophe, but things seemed to be the same as they were when the Slitheen invaded London. Things started to come together for him, and he immediately went back into the TARDIS and brought them inside 10 Downing Street. He quickly walk out the door to find the Slitheen, the others hurrying to catch up. Margaret’s disappearance at the beginning of these changes had not been a coincidence, and the Doctor was sure she was involved, and she would of course have her family help her. As he was hurrying through the halls, and opening doors, he realized something had happened to the others. Backtracking, he found them fighting, accusing others of not being who they said they were. The majority of them were accusing Dee, and the Doctor decided to put an end to this. He raised his sonic screwdriver, pointed it at Dee, and activated it. Suddenly, she flickered and then appeared as one of Cassandra’s robots. As the others gasped, the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to reprogram it to take them to Cassandra herself. Following it, they finally came to her, and a scared look came across her flat face. “Oh dear,” she said, “I bet you’re wondering why I’m here.” Angry at the chaos she had caused and at the loss of his friends, the Doctor took no time to listen to her defense. He pushed her toward the window where she would quickly try out in the light and walked out. The others looked back and forth confused, and hurried back to the Doctor as he got farther away. As they left, they could hear Cassandra screaming, and then a splat as she became too dry and split apart. They then followed the Doctor as he looked for Margaret to put an end to this. |

Blame and accusations were thrown about, eventually falling down to one person - Kiwifruit. However, suddenly another voice came over the intercom, simply saying, “You have the wrong one.” Then he spoke a few words only to the Doctor, and the Doctor did not hesitate to raise the heat shield of Boquise’s room. After he got all of the doors open, they found in the room a flickering black form which slowly warped and faded into nothingness; the Rift’s pawn was dead. As they turned to leave, talking in low voices about everything that had just happened, another Doctor beckoned Araver from around a corner. As Araver approached, the Doctor said, “It’s all over now. Let’s go,” and led him back to his TARDIS to return to the present. |
Night 3 |
---|
As the Doctor searched the halls, he suddenly heard a voice behind him. “Well well well. The Doctor. We finally meet again.” As he turned, he saw Margaret standing behind him, her petite disguise contrasting her wicked smile. “It was you. I should have known.” “Well technically it was Cassandra’s idea, and she’s the one who got me out of your wretched TARDIS. But I’ve only been playing along to use her time traveling. She is quite annoying, you know. But now I can finally be rid of you!” She began to bare her large green arm to cut him down, but she heard someone yell as the others caught up. “Hey! I wouldn’t do that, Margaret,” said Rose. Margaret sneered, “And what can you do about it?” “This.” And she threw Cassandra’s time travelling device straight at her head. Margaret caught it with a swift movement, but looked surprised for an instant as she saw that it was about to activate, then disappeared in a flash of light. It took everyone a moment to collect themselves from the intensity of the moment as they realized that the threat was gone. “Where did you send her?” asked the Doctor calmly. Rose smiled and said, “I think I sent her back in the TARDIS, when she disappeared.” Relieved, the Doctor got everyone together and set out to correct Cassandra and Margaret’s changes to the timeline, as well as stop the Rift from expanding. They had a lot of work ahead of them, but the worst of it was finally over. |
