Dungeons and Dragons: The Players Revolt was a game designed and hosted by Glycereine based on the Dungeons & Dragons RPG. Both Yuli and Araver contributed with roles during the design phase.
It began on March 9th, 2011 and ended in a Goodie win in D5 (March 20th, 2011).
Dungeons and Dragons ran as a standard Mafia game with 10 Goodies, 4 Baddies (with BTSC) and 2 Indies (with BTSC). It contained 5 kill abilities (2 RID Kills and 3 regular kills), tempered by some restrictions (Indies were immune to most of the kills, adults were immune to Indy kill).
The game had two special DnD inspired twists:
Some of the players were adults (immune to Indies) while the majority were children. Only Indies knew the age of all roles and each player knew his/her own age.
Gender of the roles was important and could be used as indirect spy information by one Goodie role.
Rules
Order of actions: Blocks > Save > RID Kill > Regular Kill > Spy
Tie Lynch: Random player in the tie is lynched.
Indies are immune to goodie kills and the baddie RID kill but not the baddie group kill.
The baddie group kill must be designated to a DM each night and is thus blockable if that person is blocked.
Every even night the average age of all players left alive will be posted.
Block will prevent all actions by that player unless the blocker is acted on.
Save will only prevent a kill (including RID kill) not any other actions
Trap will act as a block as well as making the trapped player immune to kill actions (spy still works) and preventing their day vote and ability to be voted for
Adults = 18+
If player A kills B and B kills C both kills will go through.
If player A kills B and B kills A, both die
If A blocked B and B blocked C, B's block would not go through.
Kills are non-blocking, RID Kills are blocking
Role Description
The Players (Goodies):
WINCON: Eliminate all Dungeon Masters to create a free-play environment
Rex the Rogue (male) - Subvert: A tricky, skillful scout and spy who wins the battle by stealth rather than brute force (Spy) Learns the identity of 1 person per night. If the spy is on Candice she will appear as one of the female Players
Courtney the Cleric (female) – Save: A master of divine magic with more misguided compassion than necessary (Save) Cannot save the same person twice in a row or herself more than once per game (unless there are 4 or fewer people left).
Perceval the Paladin(male) – Force Justice: A champion of justice and destroyer of evil, can change a vote without the voter knowing (Day vote manipulator) Vote can count for 0, 1 or 2 at Perceval’s discretion).
Brandi the Bard (female) – Trance: A performer whose music works magic, a wanderer and tale-teller, her music enthralls her target for the night (Block) Only blocked for night actions, not votes the next day.
William the Wizard(male) – Banish: A potent spellcaster schooled in the arcane arts. His most powerful spell, if the target is ID’d correctly, causes permanent removal (RID Kill) Cannot banish either Parent, but is told the target was a parent if he chooses “Parent” as his RID and target’s either one of them. All other RID’s must be specific.
Dave the Druid (male) – Natural Knowledge: One who draws energy from the natural world to cast spells and gain strange magical powers, can find out the truth once per night (Oracle) The “truth” must be a yes or no question posed to the host as a night action.
Randy the Ranger (male) – Misdirect: A cunning, skilled warrior of the wilderness, can change the aim of one target a night (Redirect) Redirected RID’s can be successful if the chosen role matches the person redirected to.
Bartholomew the Barbarian (male) – Brutality: A ferocious warrior who uses fury and instinct to bring down his foes (Kill) If either parent is targeted they will be blocked for the night but not killed.
Brucy the Beguiler (male) – Manipulation: He takes delight in manipulating others. Each night he can add to the night-post. If spied upon, he takes the appearance of a person of his choosing. (Post manipulator + Spy reflect)

She will be returned a result with the number of males and females in her scan. (Gender Spy) If only one person is scanned she will be told that person’s gender. If 2 or 3 are scanned she will know how many of each gender but not which one was what.
Dungeon Masters (Baddies): BTSC and Night Kill (DM must be chosen to carry out the kill)
WINCON: Become the majority, locking the surviving players in an impossible-to-win game of sadistic proportions
Candice the Collaborator (female) – (innocent looking, appears as a female goodie if spied), can follow the actions of one Player per night (spy) Spy results are reported as X targeted Y where X is the spy target
Gabriel the Gory (male) – Dismember: Ruthlessly bent on the destruction of his Players, if successful he kills them in the most gruesome ways he can imagine (RID Kill) Cannot banish either Parent, but is told the target was a parent if he chooses “Parent” as his RID and target’s either one of them. All other RID’s must be specific.
Renado the Riddler (male) – Confuse: Loves to puzzle his Players, making illogical scenarios and rendering them incapable of acting (Trap) Trapped people cannot act that night or the following day, nor can they be voted for or vote.
Samuel the Storyteller (male) – Bore: Loves to drone on about what is happening and as a result causes his targets to fall asleep during the night missing their chance for actions (Block) Bored people wake up in time to vote the following day.
Concerned Parents (Indies): BTSC
WINCON: Clear out the basement, getting all the children outside
Children will make up exactly 9 of the 14 players and dungeon masters. The 5 adults playing are not part of the Parents’ Wincon. Each player will be give an age to start the game. The parents will know which roles are what age, but will not know who has those roles.
Father (male) – Unground: Forces the child to go outside to play, removing them from the game. (Kill) Takes precedence over trap but not save and can be blocked. Kill does not work on adults.
Mother (female) – Tantalize with sweets: A sugary substance renders a child unable to act for the night (Block) Tantalize with sweets will block anyone, but due to the varying metabolisms will result in an age check for an adult (Mother is told the age, adult is not blocked). If Father dies, Mother inherits the Kill but can either Block or Kill.
Host's Summary
Game Idea and Expectations
Synopsis: Dungeons and Dragons: The Players Revolt - Players fed up with impossible dungeons and unfavorable mechanics rebel against their dungeon masters, forming a cohesive group (that ironically would have made some of those dungeons possible) to fight back. During the night an epic game is played where the dungeon masters are players and players have power over the game as well. During the day, the players group up to rid their world of one of the dungeon masters. The only problem is that due to their reclusive nature and strict rules about venturing outside, no one knows who anyone else is. The lynch vote leads to the exile of 1 player or dungeon master to the sun-streaked region known as... the outdoors.
Alternate endings
Alternate ending 1 - Indy win - Day 3 ended in a tie which could have been won by the Indy. They also missed to submit a kill in N3 and failed to kill in N4. They used the average age information to their advantage and managed to discover most of the roles correctly (but not their N4 target), but were not able to eliminate the non-adults from the game quickly enough.
Alternate ending 2 - Baddie win - Day 5 ended in a tie which could have been won by the Baddie. Had they won the tie, the two remaining goodies had no kill role remaining.
Alternate ending 3 - Indy & Baddie alliance - An alliance never actually existed, although talks about developing an alliance were in all BTSCs (including the Ghost BTSC) and in the game-thread. The Baddies helped lynch Indies and the Indies helped lynch Baddies, which ended up hurting both factions.
Brandi's mood was set and she glanced around the room for her prey. She would draw them in closely and memorize with her stunning moves. Slowly she approached sayalzah and her eyes fluttered. She took a deep breath and her hazel eyes slowly changed to a dazzling green. Her emerald irises sparkled with tenacity and her body moved sublimely to a faint music seemingly coming from nowhere. Sayalzah couldn't help but stare and was frozen in his chair. He couldn't remember what happened when he awoke the next morning.
Samuel watched from a distance but was not entranced himself. The performance wasn't for him and although curious he was still able to act. He opened the notebook in front of him and glanced at the page. No that would not do. He flipped through a few pages and his eyes lit up. He grinned and turned his head towards BrandonB. "It was a majestic night unlike any other. Trully majestic. The sky was deep and perfectly clear. Millions of stars shone brightly from distant space. The air was crisp and calm. A warm glow emitted from a nearby tavern and the street lights between here and there. A firefly danced in the bushes and you glanced into the woods beyond wondering what lay ahead. There was a..." Samuel realized his work was already done and BrandonB lay dreaming in his chair wondering what else was in this fictitious realm. He dreamt all night about the scenery with no actions involved.
Mother peered down from the steps, a fresh batch of cookies on the tray in front of her. She saw Yuli below looking far to content with the game. She approached him and held the tray out in front of her. The scent of the cookies was too much and Yuli devoured a few too many falling into a fast sugar-coated sleep.
Gabriel had his heart set on blood but was having trouble discerning who was whom. He drew a letter opener from his cloak extremely theatrically and approached BlaBlah from behind. He called out the name he thought he was looking at and held the instrument above his head. When BlaBlah didn't turn he called the name again but to no avail. Slowly he lowered his weapon and sighed. He slipped back into the corner he had been in before making his move.
William saw the move but missed who performed it. He was however inspired and tried a similar tact. He drew a want and focused his thoughts on Maurice. He chanted for several seconds and frowned. He shook his head and tried again. Apparently something was wrong with his spell and Maurice was not who he thought he was. He wrinkled his nose and slipped his wand back into his pocket.
Sandy picked a set of people and closed her eyes. She slowly moved her lips casting an inaudible spell. after a few moments her lips stopped moving and she opened her eyes. She stared straight ahead motionless. After a minute the corners of her mouth raised and then quickly lowered erasing her pleased look.
Candice looked around the room at the helpless players and smiled sinisterly. Then she put on an air of innocence and followed her prey through the night to keep tabs on them.
After following her prey Candice looked at BrandonB sleeping in front of her and her eyes went cold. She did not plan to kick him out of the game or kill off his character but rather to kill him in reality. She approached him with a quickening pace, ready for the kill. Just as she was reaching out to him an aura of protection enveloped her still victim. Courtney smiled from the side of the room pleased with her decision.
Rex watched his target with interest out of the corner of his eye. To an observer it would appear his gaze never left the book in front of him, but he saw everything he wanted to see.
Samuel being the Storyteller he is couldnt resist regaling Hirkala with his newest story. As Hirkala listened and the story went on and on and on, he fell into a deep slumber, mischief and mayhem his dream's theme.
Day 1
The players gathered around the table to try to interpret the night's events. Two parents and four DMs blended into the group in the dank basement. "Nice save Courtney!" one exclaimed. Names were thrown around and everyone decided one of the blocked people should die. The guilty member was stuffed in a black plastic bag and dragged to the top of the steps to be taken out with the trash. They all listened and when the bag was open they heard a sigh followed by surprised muttering wondering why the group had chosen to eliminate Sayalzah the Ranger.
Night 2
Mother and Father were active tonight. They had failed last night but refused to do so tonight. Too much was at stake and they must get these kids outside to play. Mother approached Hirkala with a pan of fresh baked cinnamon rolls letting the smell waft under his nose. As Hirkala's mouth started to water Father grabbed him by the back of his collar and drug him up the stairs, flinging him out of the house.
William saw this happen and was taken aback. He had planned to eliminate Hirkala tonight as well, but he was not who he thought he was.
Brandi was on the prowl looking for a susceptible victim and happened upon Araver. She smiled an inviting smile and played a song for him, hypnotizing him. She danced with him all night preventing him from doing anything else.
Renado was in a mood and ready to act. He approached Yuli intent on occupying his time for the evening and more. He asked him several questions all of which Yuli was able to answer. Finally he asked "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" Yuli stared ahead stunned with no response. He would be unable to act all night and day.
Gabriel approached Phaze. "I know who you are and it's time for you to die." Phaze replied "You're right about one thing, but you're wrong about the other." As Gabriel lifted an axe Courtney intervened, removing Phaze from harm.
Candice smiled to herself, setting her eyes on her prey, watching every move.
After following her prey Candice looked at Marquessa sitting in a chair in front of her. She lifted her hands from her sides and slowly choked the life out of Marquessa leaving her body in the chair.
Both Rex and Sandy acted.
Day 2
Golfjunkie was questioned early but a confident assurance of Araver's DM-ness was unleashed and he was dragged up the steps by his hair. When they got him to the top they could see his face in the light before slamming the door.
Night 3
Renado looked at Segul and smiled wickedly. Segul began to wimper uncontrollably and couldn't hear himself think. He feared the riddler most and just the thought of him taking charge rendered Segul unable to act for the night and following day.
Brandi sought out her target for the night, knowing he would be far too distracted to do anything else. She played a soft melody whispering into BrandonB's ear. BrandonB was so relaxed and entranced that he was unable to act for the night.
Mother had spent the afternoon baking again and came down the steps with a 7 layer chocolate decadence cake. The smell was surreal and almost had its desired effect on several unintentional targets. She finally found her mark and lay the entire cake in front of DarthMask. His eyes lit up like diamonds and he dug into the cake devouring the whole thing. His eyes slowly glazed over as he approached the end. With over 8,000 calories imbibed he slipped into a short-lived coma and would not awake until the day.
Candice watched the cake gorging with pleasure realizing it would make her job that much easier. She walked up behind DarthMask, who was too engrossed in his delectable dessert to notice anything around him, and injected rat poison into a layer of fudge in his cake. DarthMask would not wake up in the morning.... or ever. While taking care of business Candice watched someone else, noting who they interacted with.
Gabriel approached Phaze and said. "I believe we have some unfinished business. I don't like being corrected. So my timeline was off a little, you don't have anyone looking out for you tonight." Gabriel raised a scythe above his head and slashed sideways splitting Phaze into 2 pieces diagonally across his body.
Bartholomew had been bored. He didn't want to be bored anymore. He ripped the chair Yuli was sitting on out from under him and broke it over his head. The chair and skull both made cracking noises and they collapsed together neither of them of any use anymore.
Sandy chose a set and rolled her eyes in the back of her head as she determined the answer she sought.
Rex watched silently from under the stairs and was able to figure out who someone was.
Day 3
The day started out slow and never really picked up momentum. GMaster called out BrandonB as Father. BrandonB vehemently denied the accusations claiming GMaster was a Dungeon Master. In the end it was tied. At the last second Slick changed his vote... But so did Golfjunkie...It was left to the flip of a coin. BrandonB was forcefully dragged up the steps and when the light shined on his beard it was obvious from the grey flecks of hair that he was indeed Father.
Night 4
Brandi was feeling saucy tonight. She sauntered over to Vineetrika and fluttered her eyelashes. Vineetrika was caught off guard, not expecting this. She tried to avert her attention but Brandi was relentless. She began to sing in a low melodic voice. Vineetrika slowly sank lower in her chair entranced. Eventually she was completely out. lying useless in her chair for the evening.
There were homicidal tendencies abounding tonight. The killers crept around the basement seeking out their prey, hoping to catch them off guard. Some were more subtle than others, while some were outright brazen.
Gabriel approached GMaster with fire in his eyes. "Now that I know who you are you can't escape me." GMaster just grinned and said "oh, you know who I am?" Suddenly Gabriel's face went ashen. How could it be that he was wrong!? This was unexpected but GMaster had the upper hand. The would be killer sulked into a corner defeated for the time being.
William was also on the prowl. Golfjunkie had blatantly taunted him and he just couldn't let it pass. William approached from behind but as golfjunkie turned around he realized he too had the wrong target. He quickly spun on his heels to avoid detection and trying to look as innocent as possible retreated to his chair thinking about his next move.
Bartholomew didn't care as much what people thought. He saw what had just happened and was determined to not let a silly thing like identity stop his kill. He removed the blade from a paper cutter on a desk and lugged it over to golfjunkie. He raised it above his head and slammed it down. There was no blood. Had me missed? He picked it up and swung it across golfjunkie's neck. Still nothing. Puzzled he dropped the blade and stared blankly ahead.
Mother watched these failed attempts with amusement and decided it was her turn to act. She approached Segul planning to get him outside any way she could. This violence was getting to be too much and she needed to hurry. Just as she was about to grab him she realized he was much larger than her. In fact he was far too large for what she had expected. She too was confused and retreated up the steps a ways to think about what had happened.
Sandy started her scan, trying to glean some useful information. Satisfied with her results she retired for the evening.
Rex couldn't believe all that had happened. He chose a target watching every move and determining its identity. Once he had learned what he came to learn he took refuge under the steps to ready himself for the day.
Day 4
The previous night raised alot of questions and answered some. The trend of the day however were all the eyes staring at golfjunkie. How could it have taken so long for them to notice? She was completely disinterested in the game and she was always carrying around freshly baked goods. There wasn't even an oven in the basement!! The remaining players and dungeon masters gathered around Mother and escorted her up the steps, locking the door behind her.
Night 5
Brandi saw Maurice walking and stopped him. She began to play her lute. She gyrated her body smoothly to the sounds, entrancing Maurice. When she was done, she pointed him in the direction he was going, but without the intent of whatever his action was.
William had a lead and followed it. He sat with his eyes half closed as Maurice approached. As soon as he saw his face, he was certain. William lunged forward grasping Maurice by the throat and began choking him. Maurice struggled to breathe, fighting off his attacker, but it was too much to overcome.
Bartholomew picked up a complete Dungeon Master's guide from the table and walked over to Lionheart. He proceeded to bash Lionheart over the head until sounds stopped coming from his skull. Satisified with his work, Bartholomew set down the book on the table and returned to his chair.
Candice Followed her target observing his moves. When she was confident with what she saw she changed modes. She saw Blablah sitting in his chair and decided it was time for him to exit the game... permanently. She ripped a page out of her notebook and walked over to Blablah. He seemed to be asleep so this would be easy. She agilely slid the paper across both his wrists and his neck, watching him bleed out.
Sandy scanned her target satisfied with the results while Rex learned the identity of his.
Day 5
"Wait it's not over? Why are we still playing the game?". Suddenly the players realized they hadn't eliminated the last Dungeon Master. Was it GM? Segul? Vine? It seemed no one was safe. No one was certain. At the end it appeared Segul had them convinced but it was too late. The decision would be left to the hands of fate.
Segul and Vineetrika were blindfolded and tied to their chairs. Sandy flipped a coin... Heads. That meant Rex had to pull the trigger. He picked up a pistol Sandy had stolen from her father's safe. Rex closed his eyes. He aimed at the two chairs. Two ironic thoughts crossed his mind. The first was that he was the only one who could have learned their identities and now he must blindly choose. The second thought was what would happen if he missed entirely or somehow killed them both. His hands shaking Rex slowly pulled the trigger. A shot rang out and a girls scream pierced the basement. Rex removed the blindfold and saw Candice lying in a puddle of her blood.
William, Rex and Sandy looked around the room. There were more bodies than they had planned but they were free...
