It began on June 12, 2013 and ended in a Baddie win in N5 (June 22nd).
Game Mechanics[]
Rules[]
The mafia (“The Light”) must choose one player to carry out the Night kill. They may choose not to use the Night kill.
Any player may choose not to use any of their abilities on any Day/Night. Players will not be informed of the success/failure of their actions unless otherwise specified (i.e. information roles).
Night Posts will show: kill attempts, successful saves, and blocks. Anything else is up to the creative license of the host (i.e. me ;))
I hate ties, so if there is a tied vote, both players die and the last player who added/removed/changed their vote to make the tie dies.
In my ‘mafia universe’, actions are initiated during the Night/Day, but do not go through until the Night->Day/Day->Night transition, so a player’s action will still go through even if they die.
Blocks prevent players from acting. Redirects can only redirect the target, but cannot prevent a player from acting. The RID manipulate fully controls the action of its target player, i.e. it can make the manipulated player act on the target of its choosing, not act, or use a different action (if the role has a choice of actions).
Redirects are under the same restrictions as blocks. Lex may manipulate the mafia NK if he selects the NK carrier.
I don't usually show redirects, but Queen Bee's ability will be shown in the Night Post regardless of whether it ends up being a redirect or a block (and it will not show which).
In the case of loops: manipulate>redirect>block.
Role abilities are things that a player must actively choose to do (i.e. like active skills), whereas role attributes are part of the role description that are unchangeable (like passive skills). Role abilities can be blocked/redirected/manipulated, but role attributes cannot.
You may say anything you want on the game thread, but no reproducing of things from outside the game thread in the game thread (i.e. copying and pasting a PM from me).
I believe it is part of a host’s responsibility to keep the rules as clear as possible, so if there appears to be confusion about a rule, I will attempt to clarify.
Please put any questions to the host in purple so that I may find them easily. Thank you.
Role Description[]
“The Light”
- Vandal Savage: A caveman who gained intelligence and immortality by sleeping next to a meteor. He cannot die, but may be removed from a game by a majority vote (in the lynch).
- Queen Bee: Dictator of Bialya who possesses powers of persuasion over men. Each Night, can choose a player to target and a player to redirect her target’s ability to. If the target player is a male character, the ability will be redirected, if the target is a female character, the ability will be blocked. May not target the same player two Nights in a row.
- Klarion the Witch Boy: A Lord of Chaos, he enjoys petting his cat, playing games, and messing with the time-space continuum. He may switch the player who wins the lynch vote with another if he can ID the roles of both players. (Must be PMed before Day ends, may submit one RID for each player who may win the vote if it is unclear who will lynched. It will not be announced when his ability is used). *Note: Since Vandal Savage is not technically lynched, but rather removed, this ability does not work on Savage.
The Independent
- Lex Luthor: Devious and brilliant, he is a skilled manipulator. He may manipulate the actions of n players (where n is the Night/Day cycle) if he can identify their role. His manipulations are not affected by restrictions on the roles he is manipulating (i.e. not twice in a row, cannot act on self, etc). Cannot die on the first Night or Day (will appear to have been saved by Superboy/Impulse if his life is endangered on the first Night/Day). For each block used on him, only one of his manipulations will be blocked. If he wishes to use Klarion's ability on the nth Day, he must inform the host on the nth Night, and it will count in his n manipulations. If he manipulates an information role, he will gain the same information they gain. Players will not be informed if they were manipulated.
The Don’t-call-them-sidekicks
- Aqualad/Kaldur’ahm: A student of Atlantean sorcery and science who served under Aquaman. Each Night he may use his powers to prevent a player from acting. May not target the same player two Nights in a row.
- Nightwing/Dick Grayson: Batman’s, um, “assistant” *cough*, he is a skilled detective. Each Night, he may choose one player to learn the role of.
- Red Arrow/Roy Harper: Green Arrow’s adopted son, a skilled archer with just a few temper issues. Any Night but not two in a row he may choose one player to target for the kill. When he dies, Lex Luthor and Artemis will be informed.
- Impulse/Bart Allen: A descendant of the Flash family line. Any Day, but not two in a row, he may choose to save the player who is to be lynched (this will stop the lynch, no one will die).
- Superboy/Conner Kent: The genetic offspring of Superman and Lex Luthor. Each Night, may choose one player to protect from death, may not target the same player two Nights in a row. Cannot save himself.
- Miss Martian/M’gann M’orzz: The Martian Manhunter’s niece, she has even greater telepathic abilities. Each Night she may choose a player to read the mind of and find out who they acted on. (If the player was inactive, blocked, or has a Day ability, she will see that they did not act on anyone.)
- Artemis: A disciple of Green Arrow’s with a dysfunctional (putting it lightly) family. Cannot be killed as long as Red Arrow is alive (if her life is endangered, she will appear to be saved by Superboy/Impulse). If Red Arrow dies, she will be informed and gain his ability.
Host's Summary[]
There were a bunch of twists and turns throughout the course of the game...the mafia got lucky taking out the block and both killing roles by Night 2, the innocents got lucky finding Vandal Savage early, and then there was some pretty amusing confusion due to Lex's ability.
A special commendation to ShadowAngel for being a near perfect Lex Luthor...laying low (action wise) at the beginning and gathering info and power rather than fishing for the big action roles (Arrow/Artemis) and drawing attention to herself. If you'd only survived Night 4, you would have won for sure .
And a special...uh I'm not sure what to Kingofpain for somehow making all the right choices at the crucial points in the game, although I'm not sure whether you realized it at the time...you either have ridiculous mafia intuition or ridiculous luck, dude ;P.
To everyone: you were all great, and a fun crowd to hang with. I'm looking forward to having you all in future mafias...(I may do JLU2 or another mini-mafia, or maybe even one of my crazy mad mafiatist 'experiments'...I'm thinking this is a good enough crowd to try something a bit more challenging )
Thanks again!

Prologue |
---|
The sun (of this solar system) was tucking in behind earth’s horizon, casting a white-gold halo around the blue and green tiled curvature. Watching the mesmerizing scene from a monolithic satellite above the planet’s surface were two somber forms, whose long shadows stretched deep into the room behind them. After a few minutes, the green-skinned figure turned to his companion. “Do you really think they are ready for this?” The black-clad woman was silent for a moment, her soulful blue eyes pensive. Then she slowly answered, “No, I don’t think they’re ready...but I know they have to be.” “Teehee!” squealed the goggled gremlin as he slid down the ramp in the department store, whose jewelry section he had just ‘self-checked out’ of. He paused in front of a large mirror and taunted his pursuer, “See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya!” “Not so fast, Mirror Master,” the red clad archer called. He drew up his bow and launched an adeptly aimed arrow. As the red fletched arrow flew through the air towards the mirror, suddenly another arrow with dark green fletching overcame it and struck the mirror, shattering it into a multitude of shards. “Too slow, Speedy,” a blonde braided girl quipped at him. “What’s wrong, are you getting old?” “Artemis.” The male archer turned. Mirror Master attempted to use the distraction to make his getaway, but without a glance in his direction, the ex-sidekick formerly known as Speedy shot another arrow at him, which exploded into a net in mid-air. “I told you, it’s Red Arrow now.” Then he grinned devilishly. “How’s your sister, by the way?” “Alright, stop comparing arrow lengths and wrap it up,” a voice came over their comm. “Connor and M’gann could use your help with Toyman.” Signing off, Nightwing sighed. Maybe teaming those two up hadn’t been the best idea... “Done talking to your girlfriend?” A southern drawl teased him. “Didn’t your momma teach you it’s not polite to ignore a lady?” The former circus acrobat just managed to dodge the fairer Terror Twin’s jump kick. “Well, lady, I was taught not to hit girls, but for you, I’ll make an exception.” Tuppence smirked. “I’d like to see you try, boy.” “You tell ‘em, sis!” called out her not much better half. Then he turned to his opponent and sneered. “Why don’t you smile? You’re on teeeveee,” Tommy jeered as he gestured to a security camera at the end of the alley. Caldur frowned and opened his fists. Two bands of magical electricity wound around his arms like eels. “I will smile when I have apprehended you.” “Then I guess ya’ll keep on frowning, fish boy...” On the other side of the city, two others were frowning. “This is not what I was thinking of when I said we should have a ‘night out’,” Connor muttered as he raised his arms to shield against lasers that emitted from the mouths of a small army of baby dolls. “Me neither,” M’gann replied. She phased out her physical form, allowing the laser pulses to pass right through. She threw a meaningful glance at the dolls. “But they do say children always get in the way...” “I was really looking forward to seeing that new movie at the cineplex, you know, with the guy from outer space...” The half-kryptonian teen rammed his fist into one of the dolls, crushing its head and exposing sparking wires beneath. “I just really wanted to make dinner for you,” the pretty martian confessed as she lifted two of the dolls telekinetically and smashed them together, “I had a new recipe I was eager to try, ‘chicken speed-ini’ or something Italian...you always said how good I am with Italian dishes...” “Nooo...my babies!” squealed Toyman. The small man turned his head around just in time to see Superboy come up and grab him by the collar. “Thanks,” Connor whispered to Toyman right before punching his lights out. On the other side of the country, Impulse was handing a cryogenic container over to hospital officials. “Thank you so much for bringing this to us,” the surgeon gushed, “now we can perform the heart transplant in time to save that little girl’s life.” “Crashed I could help,” replied the speedster from the future. He waved to the men and women in scrubs and dashed off back the way he came. If I’m on mode, I can make it back in time to join in on the fun, Bart thought as he passed through Wyoming. Suddenly, he caught something in the corner of his eye, something strange. He halted and backed up a few miles. In the distance, he could see the ominous shape of a large building. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t there when I passed through here ten minutes ago... “Sir,” the oppressed technician meekly chimed, “there seems to be a problem with the cloaking mechanism.” “What?” roared Vandal Savage. His formidable stature loomed over the gaunt man, who winced and cowered further. “You incompetent fool!” “My dear,” the slim graceful lady next to him cooed. “Stop shouting at the poor man.” She gave the lackey an alluring smile. “You know, you catch more flies with honey...” A red bubble formed in front of them, in the middle of which what seemed to be a rift in the fabric of space itself appeared. Out of it stepped a thin boy with dark hair that stuck up on both sides. “You silly Earthlings,” he chided, stroking the overfed cat in his arms. “I told you it’d be easier if we put our HQ in a different dimension.” “Yes, but I have a country to rule, in this dimension,” Queen Bee responded, lazily twirling a strand of dark hair around her finger. Savage snarled and turned back to glare at the technician. “Just get the cloak back,” he commanded, “now!” A white and red streak flashed into the alley just as Nightwing was giving a final tug to the ropes wrapped around Tommy and Tuppence. “Sorry, Bart, you’re late to the party,” Dick remarked, then gestured towards the not-so-terrible-anymore twosome. “We already gave away all the favors.” But the look on his fleet-footed teammate’s face wiped the smug grin off his. A look of concern crossed Caldur’s face besides him. “What’s the matter?” “Guys,” the speedster stated slowly, as the red light from the security camera blinked above “I think we might have a problem...” Smiling with satisfaction, Lex Luthor sat back in his comfortable black leather chair as he watched the scene unfold on a high-resolution monitor to his right. On a monitor to his left, lines of the code that had hacked into the Light's cloaking system were still scrolling across the screen. The Neanderthal and the children would keep each other busy and out of his hair...well, metaphorically speaking. He shrugged and ran a hand over his smooth head. Everything was going according to plan. |
Night 1: A Savage Beating |
---|
It was a warm, humid Night, and dee_dot could feel his head getting heavy as he strolled down the scantily lit street. Suddenly a noise from behind him startled him back to awareness. He spun around, but not quickly enough to prevent his arms from being pulled back into tight restraint. “I am sorry,” came a voice from the shadows. “Please...I’m not ready to die yet,” dee_dot pleaded. The figure stepped forward... “I am not here to kill you,” said Aqualad. “But I need to request that you stand down for the Night.” “Uh...okay...” dee_dot replied slowly. “Not like I have a choice, I guess...” ShadowAngel twirled the straw in her appletini disinterestedly as she glanced around the bar. She had lost count of the men who had come up to her toNight to offer to buy her next drink, but none had so much as begun to pique her interest. They had all just been so...ordinary. “Not finding anything you like in the swarm?” a sultry voice came from behind her. She turned and found a beautiful dark-haired, olive-skinned woman smiling intently at her. “No...” she stammered, feeling her cheeks get red. There was someone about the woman...something...mesmerizing... “Well, I know a few things you could try,” Queen Bee ran her fingers skillfully around the rim of her cocktail glass. “I could show you, if you wanted...” Vandal Savage huffed with purpose as he lifted the 500lb weighted bar up to his shoulders. Imbeciles, he thought, he was surrounded by imbeciles and narcissistic fools. Queen Bee had gone off to ‘entertain’ herself, while who knew where in the world Klarion was...actually, he was probably not even in this world. His fists clenched with fury and there was a cracking sound. The weight plates on each side came crashing to the ground as the steel bar snapped like a twig. He sighed in disgust as he surveyed the mess around him. “Um...excuse me?” a voice came from the doorway. Araver stepped carefully through. “Who are you?” Savage demanded. “I’m from IT,” Araver said, “I was called here to fix something...I’m not sure what, but the guy on the phone said I’d be paid quadruple overtime, so...” Savage felt his primal rage boiling up inside him to a greater extent than it had since the Dark Ages...literally. Not seeming to notice, Araver chuckled to himself. “I gotta say, this place was pre-etty hard to find, but I called the guy and he gave me really good directions...” IMBECILES! Savage screamed in his head as his fist slammed into Araver’s. |
Day 1: Broken Arrow |
---|
Minesweeper tugged at his shirt nervously as he waited in front of the theatre. In the pocket was the note that he had found pinned to his bedpost with a dagger: “Meet me at the cineplex at 8, love, you know who.” He found his fingers inching towards the note. Don’t be a fool, he thought to himself, you’re just here to catch her and take her in, it’s not like you like her, I mean, sure, okay, she’s pretty hot, with those dark almond shaped eyes and that smile, and, yeah, that bod...wow, what a bod... “You made it,” a smooth, strong voice jolted him out of his revelries. He turned and saw her, dressed in a low cut jade colored blouse and leggings that showed off her long, muscular legs. He tried to find something to say, but his voice caught in his throat. It didn’t matter, though, because in the next moment, she was leaning in for a kiss. Wow, he thought, that was the best kiss I’ve ever...wait, what am I doing? “What are you doing?” a voice echoed his inner dialogue. He turned and saw Conner and M’gann staring at him, gaping. “Wait, this is not...” he began. But he was cut off by a super-powered punch in the face from the Boy of Steel. “So you’re the traitor,” Conner accused, anger flashing in his blue eyes as he gripped Minesweeper by the collar. “No...mmm’not...” he tried to say, but he was pretty sure his jaw was broken in at least two places. “Let him go,” his date cried, and she flung a pair of red tassled sai at Miss Martian, who stopped them easily in midair with her telekinesis. “Wwun,” he shouted (or his best attempt at shout at least), but it was too late. M’gann, eyes glowing, rotated the sai and sent them flying at the Asian girl. With a burst of strength, Minesweeper broke free of Conner’s grasp and flung himself in front of the girl. Blood spurted from his mouth as the sai plummeted into his back.
“Nooo...Roy!” Cheshire cried. She ran to him and pulled his bloody form into her arms. She lifted his head and planted one last kiss on his lips. “I...I’m sorry...” Red Arrow stammered, and then he was gone. |
Night 2: Bow Down |
---|
Atop an abandoned apartment complex, Artemis waited with silent resolve. Blood had been spilled, blood of someone close to her. Sure, they had not always gotten along...okay, admittedly, they had never really gotten along, but they had been teammates, and, she grudgingly conceded to herself, friends. Now it was time for some payback. The muscles in her shooting hand tensed as she saw her target exiting the embassy. He shook hands with Ambassador Sung, laughing politely at some joke the ambassador had made, then bowed and took his leave. He walked for a stretch along the roadside, then, suddenly broke off into a back road. Artemis felt her pulse race. This was her chance. She raised her bow and forced her breathing to slow. No point screwing the pooch now, now that she was so close. Carefully the young huntress took aim at her prey’s back, at the point between his shoulderblades, where her arrow would penetrate his heart. She inhaled, and let the arrow fly. The arrow glided through the air, straight and certain at her target. She allowed herself to smile. It would all be over soon. 50 feet....40 feet...30 feet...20...10...5...3...2...1... Suddenly Aaryan spun around and caught the arrow with a firm fist, not an inch away from his chest. He glanced at it with disinterest, and then snapped it like a twig. Then he turned his gaze up...right at Artemis...and smirked. “It is not so easy to kill me, foolish little girl,” he stated in a loud, deep voice. Then he threw his head back and let out a laugh that rumbled through the Night. Vommack sat at the counter, his brows furrowed in concentration, staring past the ice that was slowly melting in his tumbler. He had tried to help, but it had not gone as planned, at all. He let out a cry of frustration, “Why won’t anyone listen to me?” “I’ll be happy to listen,” a sultry voice said, and a beautiful dark haired woman leaned onto the counter next to him. She placed a slim, smooth hand on his and gazed meaningfully into his eyes. “Tell me,” she continued in a hypnotic tone, “I’ll listen as long as you want...” MikeD hummed to himself as he smothered mayonnaise on the side of a piece of bread. A smidge got onto his finger, and he licked it off. Mmmmm.... He placed the bread (mayonnaise side down, of course) onto the rest of the fixings for his turkey sandwich. Then he leaned back to gaze upon his good work, and smiled appreciatively. His joy was interrupted by his awareness of a red glow coming from behind him. Cautiously, he turned, and found himself face to face with a thin young man with “Sorry to interrupt,” Klarion said, stroking his feline companion. He glanced at the sandwich. “That looks tasty, did you make me one?” The corpulent cat yowled as if in agreement, then hopped from his skinny arms onto MikeD’s kitchen counter. Moving at surprising speed for such an obese creature, the cat snatched up the sandwich in its jaws. “Hey!” MikeD cried. “Don’t eat my sandwich!” Klarion pursed his lips. “You’re right, how impolite.” He shook his head at the animal. “Bad kitty,” he reprimanded, then bowed to MikeD. “I apologize, she shouldn’t have eaten your sandwich.” Taken by surprise, MikeD turned towards Klarion and shrugged. “Uh...well, it’s okay...I guess...” Suddenly he was aware of a shadow looming over him. He spun around and saw the cat...except it was now the size of a tiger. He opened his mouth to scream, but before he could, the feline pounced and ripped out his throat with its fangs. The Lord of Chaos giggled with delight. “She should eat you!” |
Day 2: Vandal-ized |
---|
Note: There are no hints in my Posts, so which characters are mentioned is not a reflection of who may or may not still be alive in the game. The remaining heroes (and the villains lurking amongst them) circled around Aaryan, holding their weapons at the ready, poised to strike. “Come at me, children,” Vandal Savage taunted. “I dare you!” Miss Martian’s eyes glowed, and she raised a boulder telekinectically and sent it flying at Savage. Artemis raised her bow and let a pair of arrows fly. The neanderthal raised his thick arms to shield his face from the impact, then deflected the boulder aside and straight towards Impulse. Then he caught the arrows easily. Bart dodged the incoming stone with super-speed, then zoomed around Savage, looking for an opening. Before he could, with a roar, Savage grabbed him and flung him at Artemis, sending them both toppling. “Is that all you got? Pathetic!” He scoffed. But as he snapped the arrows, a cloud of particulates emitted from them, clouding his vision and his lungs. As their enemy was coughing, Nightwing tossed a pair of wing-shape shurikan at the big man’s calves, bringing him down to his knees. Aqualad coiled his electric whips around Savage’s arms, pinning them, and Superboy rushed up, paused for a moment to retract his arm in a good swing, and smashed his fist into the giant’s head, jerking it to one side at an impossible angle. “We did it!” Artemis cried, and her teammates stood back, catching their collective breath from the exertion. The cloud cleared, revealing Vandal Savage standing, head back centered. With one enormous hand, he popped his jaw back into place, then shifted it around to make sure it was moving properly. Then he bellowed a deep laugh. “YOU FOOLS! YOU CANNOT KILL ME! I AM IMMORTAL!” The heroes stared in dismay which turned to surprise and uncertainty as his laughing was drowned out by the smooth humming of an engine. Above him, a ship appeared, decloaking from its aft. A voice was projected to the scene below: “Savage, the council has deemed that you draw too much attention to yourself. It has been decided that your employment is to be...terminated.” “What!” Savage roared. “I am about to destroy these children! You can’t do this, not now! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” In answer, a blinding ray of light shot down from the ship. The heroes had to avert their eyes, and when they could look back, the light was gone, and so was Vandal Savage. (Meanwhile, in an alternate universe where Kal-el’s ship landed on Apokolips rather than Earth) “We’ve arrived, Sir.” The Apokolipian technician announced. The solemn commander in dark armor nodded grimly. “Open up a channel.” The people of this small planet, Earth it was called, stared up in fear and awe at the enormous spaceship that loomed above them, which had seemingly come out of nowhere, and was jet black, almost as if it sucked the light from it’s surroundings. After what seemed like an interminable silence, a voice began to broadcast: “Humans, I am Kal-el, son of Darkseid, supreme ruler of Apokolips and the universe. Do not be afraid. We have come to place this planet under our protection. As long as you do not resist, you will not be harmed.” “Protection, my foot,” ace reporter Lois Lane commented to a cowering Jimmy Olsen, photographer. She frowned. “What are you doing, get more shots of that ship, for the story!” As she was inching forward in the awestruck crowd, trying to get a better view of the ship, suddenly she noticed a dull drumming sound. As it became louder, she realized that it was the sound of music blasting. Around a skyscraper, what looked like a red and gold robot flew out, propelled by some kind of rocket power. It stopped in front of the mass, and a cocky voice came from it: “Don’t worry, good people of, uh...Kansas? I’m here now, all will be well.” Jimmy was gaping at the newcomer, but Lois slapped him back into awareness. “Pictures, Jimmy, pictures!” The talking robot turned and flew towards the ominous ship. It raised an armored arm, out of which popped out an inset, which sent rockets shooting at the alien vessel. Nothing happened. “Hey, anyone in there?” The maverick called, kicking the vessel with his metal-clad food, which scraped off the smooth surface of the unknown material the ship was made of. “Stop hiding in this middle age crisis, and fight like a man!” Abruptly a hatch lowered from the seamless surface and a figure clad in sleek black armor glided out. There were no engines, no rocket power, no machinery, but the formidable form levitated effortlessly in mid-air. “Who are you?” The invader asked. His high-cheekboned features were set in a resolute glare. “Who am I?” the metal-clad man echoed. “You know who I am...” The handsome extraterrestrial furrowed his brows. “No...” he said slowly. “I do not.” “Oh...well, here’s a hint: I’m a billionaire playboy philanthropist,” Earth’s defender said. “Figure it out yet, Mr. Universe?” Kal-el frowned. “No.” His would be opponent sighed. “Fine, then I guess I’ll have to show you...” Abruptly, he flicked on his boosters, and shot towards the perfectly coifed alien, punching his could-of-been-sculpted-by-Michelangelo features squarely in the face. “OWWW...son of a b...” the armored ensconced person muttered, shaking out his gloved hand, which was now sporting an impressive dent. The Krypton born Apokoliptian gazed at him with disinterest. “Enough. Will your planet surrender quietly, or will we need to take...measures?” “You can hit us with all you’ve got,” the other replied, still reeling from the pain. “We’ll never surrender, that is the strength of us humans. No matter how bad things look, we’ll keep fighting, to the last man. We’ll never be dominated by the likes of you...” Kal-el shrugged. Then, in less than the blink of an eye, he was behind the metal-clad man, grabbing him by the shoulder panels. In a completely fluid motion, Kal crushed the armor onto itself like a tin can. Blood flowed down from the mangled mess and a drop fell on Lois’s upraised face. She wiped it off with her index finger and then turned to Jimmy with a confused look on her face. “Who was that man?” |
Night 3: Catnapped |
---|
Vommack was walking home after a long Day at work. His stomach growled, reminding him that he had missed lunch, and he closed his eyes and imagined the leftover steak and mash potatoes that were waiting for him in the fridge. Mmmmm.... He was so absorbed in his visions of red meat that he didn’t notice the red hole that suddenly unfurled in front of him. “Well, look who we found, Teekl,” Klarion remarked to his familiar, who was in were-tabby form. The huge cat let out a yowl, which turnout out as a low rumble through the Night air. Vommack froze, then quickly wiped the drool from the corner of his lip. “Um...” he stammered, then waved his hand in front of the franken-feline. “I am not the snack you are looking for...” Do cats smile? Because he could sworn that this one did...a malignant, voracious smile. Klarion chuckled. “She doesn’t like you,” he jibed at vommack. “Well, maybe you’ll taste better than you look.” He nodded to the cat. “Go get him, darling.” It let out another yowl, louder this time, much louder, and then pounced at vommack. Vommack swallowed deeply, seeing the moonlight glint off the animal’s fangs. (Meanwhile, elsewhere...) ShadowAngel didn’t know what she was doing back here. After what had happened the other Night, she...wait, what did happen the other Night? There were vague flashes, glimpses of sights, memories of sounds and smells, feelings...but together they meant nothing to her, nothing but sound and fury. “Well, well,” an all too familiar voice greeted her. She turned, feeling both exhilaration and dread. Part of her had hoped to stare into those enchanting dark eyes again, she had to admit, but another part of her screamed at her to run, that there was something not right about the whole situation... “I shouldn’t be here,” ShadowAngel murmured, glancing down at her hands, wrapped around a glass tumbler. Queen Bee gently reached out and placed her own hand on top. “But you are here,” she cooed. ShadowAngel gulped. “Yes...” As death approached, vommack’s life flashed before his eyes. He saw his father’s proud face as he stumbled onstage to accept his award in second grade. He saw crowd (admittedly only a few dozen people, but to him it had seemed an ocean) cheering the grand slam he had hit in little league. He saw the girl he had kissed in high school, and the girl he wished he had kissed in college. He saw himself tearing up the track in the 100 meter dash... Wait...he had never been in track... Vommack came back to awareness just as the black blur, moving at a speed he wouldn’t have thought humanly possible, collided with the leaping cat, knocking it into the brick wall of a building. The ground shook where he stood, and a cloud of dust exploded up. When it settled enough for him to open his eyes, he saw a feline-shaped hole in the building’s side. “C’mon,” his savior mumbled, and grasped his arm in an astonishingly firm grip. Vommack could see now that the shirt the boy wore was not pure black, but had an offset pentagon with a large ‘S’ in the center drawn on it. “Wh...where?” vommack coughed. “To safety,” was the only reply. |
Day 3: Boys will be Superboys |
---|
The audience was a sea of somber faces as they led the condemned up to the gallows. The executioner had to drag him along by chains attached to manacles around his hands, since a sack hung over his head, obscuring his vision. “Die, scum!” a disheveled old woman called out, and lobbed a rotten tomato at the prisoner. Her cry was echoed, and so was the projecting of over-ripe fruit (yes, apparently tomatoes are fruits). “Noo...you’re wrong!” the prisoner cried, although his voice was muffled by the burlap. “I’m innocent, I swear!” But the only replies were boo’s and hisses and a measured yank on the chains. After the unfortunate fellow was in place, the executioner placed a thick rope around his neck and secured it tight. Then the black-masked man nodded to a hunch-backed, warty faced man on the ground, who pulled the wooden lever with a loud creak. The hatch on the platform below the condemned opened and his body dropped down. Cheering erupted in the crowd. A sickening crunch rolled through the air as his neck snapped, and his lean body convulsed in midair. The cheering continued for a few minutes, then abruptly died down as the figure continued convulsing. Shouldn’t he be dead by now? The audience exchanged perturbed looks. The executioner scratched his hooded head, then pulled the rope tighter. The body convulsed more violently for a couple seconds more, then the movement seemed to dampen. The executioner shrugged, then moved off the platform to confer with the lever-puller. The hanged man’s motion appeared to come to a stop. There was a half-hearted reiteration of the cheering, but it had taken on a cautious, uncertain tone. The scraggly lever-puller stepped up to the unmoving form and gently...carefully...reached out a finger to poke it. There was one final jerk, and then the body was stone still. Letting out a sigh of relief, the lever-puller turned to the audience and gave them a haggle-toothed smile. Then he reached out and pulled the bag off, revealing... ...the cold lifeless form of dee_dot. The lever-puller gave a start, then stammered, “wha...what is this?” and glanced around for the executioner... ...who was nowhere to be found. |
Night 4: In the Shadow of Greatness |
---|
(In a world far far away...and yet closer than you might think...) “Hurry!” the dark-haired woman urged as she watched in horror the scene playing out in distance from her 6th floor window. It was coming. And it was annihilating everything in its wake. The tall man she was speaking to shook his head. “I can’t rush this...if I calibrate the frequency incorrectly the ship will be torn apart by secondary harmonic oscillations in the vortex...” There was a loud crash as something solid and large impacted the side of their building, probably projected as a result of a compression front. The infant cradled in the woman’s arms began to cry, and she gently rocked him and cooed, “sssshhhh...it’s alright, my love, everything will be alright,” but the look in her eyes as she glanced back out the window said definitively otherwise. Dust and the debris from collapsed buildings, torn-up roads, and god knew what else floated up in mid-air, suspended by the anti-gravity field of the antimatter wave...the wave that was approaching, fast. The baby cried louder. “Almost there...” the man grunted, turning a few tight knobs, “...there! I got it!” The woman bounced the baby one final time and hustled over to the small traveling ship. With a doleful expression on her pretty face, she leaned over and planted a gentle kiss on her son’s forehead. “Take care my love,” she whispered, and placed the infant and the hope of her world into the tiny vessel. Taking her hand in a firm yet comforting grip, the man gave his son one last fatherly pat on his tiny hairless head and then closed the ship’s hatch. Then he exchanged a final meaningful look with his wife as the building began to shake and disintegrate, and pressed the button on the machine. The cries of the baby rang out through the dimensional walls as his parents’ faces disappeared into the blinding darkness. (Somewhere over the rainbow...on “Earth Prime”) The girl mentally chewed on the end of a pencil (seriously, who used pencils these days?) as she stared at the blank document in front of her on the computer screen. It stared back. Bah, she thought. Writer’s block is a b.... Her speakers emitted a beep, indicating she had a new message in gchat. She tabbed to it. It was a friend from college, asking: “Hey, how’s it going?” “Terrible,” she replied, “I’m trying to think of ways to kill ppl.” “Uh...” “For the game I’m hosting,” she added hastily. “I can’t think of anything interesting to write.” “Oh...what’s it about?” “DC superheroes and stuff,” she answered, pursing her lips. “You can’t think of anything to write about DC superheroes?” “No, I can think of plenty to write about DC superheroes, but I can’t use it...” “Why not?” Because it has nothing to do with the game, she thought, but her fingers froze on the keyboard as a mental representation of the inextricably convoluted storylines she had been reading about on wikipedia for the last two days popped into her head. Hmmm.... “Talk to you later,” she told her friend. “I have a Post to write...” (Back on Earth 1.1....or was it 1.2...?) ShadowAngel strolled down the boardwalk, donning an aura of self-assurance. She paused and patted the bulge in her pocket, smiling to herself. “Hello, dear,” a smooth voice accosted her. “So we meet again.” A smile spread over Shadow’s face. She turned, “So we do...hello Queen.” An interested expression spread over the dictator’s olive complexion. “Well, you seem different...” “Oh, I am...” Shadow replied slowly, as her hand slipped into the pocket. Abruptly, she drew it out and thrust what was in at the slim-figured woman. A golden lasso wound around Queen Bee’s neck, holding her still. “What’s this?” the queen choked, grasping unfruitfully at the inexplicably strong coil. “Just a piece I borrowed from...a friend,” Shadow replied, twisting the other end around her wrist. “Now, as you can see, I am immune from your charms.” “No...” Queen Bee coughed. “You can’t do this...I’m...the Qu...Queen! You mu...must love...me!” Shadow tsked. “Puh-leeze. Haven’t you heard of Machiavelli? It’s better to be feared than to be loved.” “Perhaps,” a voice interrupted from seemingly out of nowhere. Shadow spun around, and then covered her eyes as a violet light erupted in front of her. “I’m sure Sinestro would agree with you,” remarked the violet-glow-enveloped woman who glided forward, levitating off the ground. “You two would make a great pair, I think, but unfortunately for you, he’s not here.” “Who are you?” Shadow demanded, clutching the Lasso of Truth more tightly. “Me? Well, I had a name when I was but a human, but now that the Zamarons have bestowed this gift upon me, I no longer need it.” “Gift?” Shadow echoed suspiciously. The mysterious woman giggled. “Yes, this gift...of love. Let me show you the true power of love...the true power of the Star Sapphires.” The violet glow around her stretched and surrounded Shadow in its blinding aura. Queen Bee closed her eyes and few moments later felt the noose around her neck loosening. When she opened her eyes she was greeted by the sight of Shadow’s limp, lifeless form, which was seemingly vanishing into thin air. “Wha...what did you do?” she stammered out. The mysterious woman smiled. “Just righting a wrong that should never have existed, a perturbation in the fabric of space and time itself.” The queen kept staring at the fading figure, then, when it was completely gone, finally asked, still clearly shaken, “And me? What do you plan to do with me?” Instead of answering, the woman floated over to her and tenderly placed a hand on her temple. Queen Bee felt a wave of warmth wash over her, soothing her, calming her, and her eyes slowly slid closed... “Are you alright?” a girl’s voice asked. The dictator of Bialya sat up and shook her head. Something seemed be fading away from her, a memory, a glimpse of something she shouldn’t have seen...she tried to catch it, but it evaporated like a wisp of smoke. The girl in front of her held out a cup. “Some water, you should drink it.” “Yes...” Queen Bee said slowly, taking the cup. “Thank you, uh...” “Kika,” the girl answered, giving her a bright smile. “Kikacat.” Queen Bee took a long sip, and then felt herself returning. “Kikacat...” the queen repeated, and a seductive smile slid over her face. “That’s a very pretty name. Please, let me show you my thanks...” |
Day 4: Impulse Buy |
---|
The newly appointed executioner (where had that other one gone?) led the bagged figure up the steps to the the platform. "Ya sure you got the right one this time?" the haggle-toothed lever puller asked, his face set in a look of consternation. The executioner nodded. The lever puller shrugged and took his place. The crowd this time was smaller, and full of uncertain, confused faces. The booing and jeering was half-hearted, at best. The prisoner did not resist as the executioner put the noose around his neck and gave the lever puller a thumbs up sign. The lever puller shrugged again and pulled the lever. The hatch opened and... Suddenly a blur wooshed past the scraggly members of the audience, up the platform, and through where the prisoner hung, drawing up a cloud of dust in its wake. After the dust settled, the coughing crowd was able to discern the figure of the prisoner, standing on the ground, hands unbound. The now no longer condemned slowly removed his hood... Kingofpain smiled out at the audience. |
Night 5: In Blackest Light |
---|
The circle of young heroes cornered Kingofpain, eyeing him warily, various weapons at the ready. “Guys, c’mon...it’s not what you think...I’m on your side, really...” “Meeooowww,” Teekyl purred, emerging from a cat-sized red breach in the fabric of spacetime. The familiar languidly brushed up against Kop’s scrawny calves. The boy frowned, “bad kitty,” then shrugged. “Oh well, guess the cat’s out of the bag...kekeke...” He raised a hand, palm side up, and a fissure his own size appeared. “Time to move on to greener dimensions...” “Not so fast,” Flamepulse stepped forward, a electromagnetic field disrupter designed by Nikawing strapped to his back. He began to race around Koplarion, melding into a red and white blur, and the escape portal began to shimmer and short-circuit. “MEEEOOOWWW!!!” the infuriated familiar shifted into its were-form, and prepared to leap over the vertically challenged Flamepulse wall. As it did so, though, its motion halted in mid-air. It yowled irately as it waved its paws around to no avail. “Someone needs a time out,” remarked Vomm’gann, eyes glowing, as she held the feline telekinetically. She shot a quick glance at Panther, who was standing still, hand behind his back. “Aren’t you going to help?” Panther nodded. “Of course...” He whipped out his hand, revealing a black ring sitting on his index finger. A beam of blackness shot out from it, in front of Vomm’gann. “What’s that?” Nikawing asked, eyebrows furrowed. A smug smile crossed Panther’s face. “I said I would help...but I didn’t say I would help you.” The blackness swirled and then began to shape itself into an all too familiar figure...a strapping young lad with two magical whips on his arms. “Caldur?” Vomm’gann asked, levitating towards him. “Is that you?” But something was wrong...instead of white-hot electricity, his whips were now tendrils of blackness. His skin was sallow, with a grayish pallor, an ominous black aura enveloped his form, and when he looked up at her, his eyes were blank, emotionless. “M’gann, wait...” Nikawing tried to warn her, but it was too late. Suddenly the black whips flung out and caught the (relatively) young martian around the torso and neck, pinning her arms and choking her. Nikawing dashed forward to help his comrade, but was cut off by another beamof black light. “Uhn uhn,” Queen P tsked. “I have different playmate for you.” This blast took on the form of a female, holding a long bow. This figure had the same deathly pallor, and the same black aura of wrongness. “No...it can’t be...” Nikawing shook his head. Abruptly the black Artemike loosed an arrow at him, which he managed to dodge with an agile back flip...but just barely. Queen P laughed gleefully. “This is just too much fun! Hmm...let’s see who else we can get to join the party.” She aimed the black ring on the other side of Nikawing and shot another black beam. The blur that was Flamepulse flashed across the way, deflecting it into the mouth of a dark alleyway, as he went to help Vomm’gann. But as her concentration wavered, so did her mental grip on were-Teekyl, who clawed free and pounced on the speedster, catching him off guard and pinning him to the ground. The now free and clear Koplarion disappeared into the red crack and reappeared from a different one next to Queen P. “Silly children,” his grin overflowed with mirth. The queen shot a sideways glance at his adolescent form. “Mmm...hmm...” Not seeming to notice, the Lordling of Chaos stooped over to examine her new accessory. “Where did you get that, anyways.” A perplexed expression flitted over her face. “I...I’m not sure...I...don’t...” As Queen P was struggling to grasp at the straws of a forgotten memory, Nikawing, who had managed to evade black Artemike for the moment, vaulted up behind her, and prepared to karate-chop her in the neck. There was a whizzing sound, and then Nikawing grunted and topped over, revealing a bullet hole in her back. Back-tracking the projectile’s trajectory with their eyes, the remaining members of the Light witnessed a shadowy form of a bald man emerging from the alleyway. “Well, better late than never,” Queen P remarked, although there a discernable note of a tremor was in her voice. “Welcome to the party, Lex.” Shadow Lex’s emotionless face did not change as he lowered the smoking gun to his side. Kloparion stroked his now back-to-just-being-fat sized cat as he surveyed the scene of fallen heroes. “‘Looks like our fun here is done. Now what?” “How about we celebrate.” Queen P’s rouge lips curved into an alluring smile. She tenderly moved a smooth finger under his chin. “I bet I know a few things even you haven’t seen before...” She leaned over and whispered something in the Witch Boy’s ear, and the pair began to move away, into the moonlight, and the dark forms of the undead stared at their retreating figures blankly, unmoving. It was the Blackest Night, and the Light had won.

Host notes: Innocents just lost two killing roles in a row...ouch....although it's not the worst thing that could have happened...that would be if Lex had figured out who the killing role was >D N3
Host notes: Hehe...now this is getting interesting. Vommack would have seen QB redirecting Shadow, but Shadow manipulated him to see kikacat acting on dee_dot...and vommack is not aware he's been manipulated, so...
Host notes: Okay, so Klarion/KoP wants to lynch switch himself with Superboy, which is actually probably the best move at this point, although he shouldn't know it, lol. Artemis could still be alive, and it should be pretty obvious from the lack of Aqualad action he's dead, so keeping Superboy alive and redirecting him with Queen Bee's ability should be what would seem like the best option at this point. But since Artemis is actually dead, getting rid of the save is best, although not for Lex N4
Host notes: Damb, Lex/Shadow was sooo close :/ I'm pretty sure the mafia is going to win at this point unless the innocents can pull off something super sneaky and confuse the mafia about their identities. D4
Host notes: Uh...wow...the innocents would have had a really good chance of winning if Impulse hadn't done that, lol...Kingofpain is either the best mafia player ever or the luckiest... |
